Business Climate - Lockhart's Wide Open for Business

Building prosperity, a higher and rising standard of living, is the bottom line of economic development today.  Productivity and productive growth are the fundamental drivers of prosperity with innovation driving productivity. The focus of economic development should be on supporting innovation, increasing prosperity for American businesses and ensuring workers have the skills to remain the most productive workforce possible.

Typically economic development can be described as the creation of jobs and wealth, and the improvement of quality of life. It can also be described as a process that influences growth and restructuring to enhance the economic well being of a community. Communities differ in their geographic and political strengths and weaknesses and will each have a unique set of challenges for economic development.

The dominant reality of economic development today is that we live and operate in a worldwide economy and must operate and cooperate with countries around the world. We must think regionally and build a strong economic platform for growth.

The Economic Development Department pursues three main avenues of successful economic development:  Business Recruitment; Retention; and Expansion.
