A Career Pathway in Advanced Manufacturing for Lockhart Youth

The Tesla Careers Pathway Program connects Lockhart high school seniors and recent graduates with paid training and full-time employment opportunities in advanced manufacturing.

Powered by the City of Lockhart Economic Development Corporation and guided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of South-Central Texas (BGCSCT), this program provides a direct pathway from high school to a career at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility.

Program Overview

The Tesla Careers Pathway Program is a workforce development initiative designed to prepare Lockhart youth for careers in advanced manufacturing.

Through a partnership with Tesla’s Manufacturing Development Program (MDP) and Austin Community College, participants complete a 7-week paid training program that includes hands-on instruction in manufacturing systems, electronics, quality control, and material handling. Upon completion, participants move directly into full-time employment with Tesla.

The program is designed to serve approximately 20 students from underserved backgrounds, providing not only technical training but also mentorship, transportation, and ongoing support.

Who the Program Is For

This program is open to:

  • Lockhart high school seniors or recent graduates

  • Individuals with a high school diploma or on track to graduate

  • Young adults interested in a career in advanced manufacturing

Participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the start of the program

  • Complete an application and basic resume

  • Submit to a background check

What Participants Receive

Students accepted into the program receive:

  • Enrollment in a 7-week paid training program at Austin Community College

  • Hands-on manufacturing instruction and industry-recognized training

  • Guaranteed interviews for full-time employment at Tesla

  • One-on-one mentorship and weekly check-ins with BGCSCT staff

  • Free transportation to and from training, provided by BGCSCT

  • Ongoing career readiness and financial literacy support

Participants earn:

  • A Production Operator Certificate

  • 20 college credit hours from Austin Community College

  • Full-time employment with Tesla upon successful completion of the program

Program Impact

The Tesla Careers Pathway Program is designed to:

  • Create a clear bridge from high school to high-wage careers

  • Increase workforce readiness among Lockhart youth

  • Reduce barriers such as transportation and lack of access to training

  • Support long-term career stability and economic mobility

This program helps address local workforce challenges while building a strong talent pipeline for advanced manufacturing careers in Central Texas.
